FAQ

An event can't be called as an event is it doesn't have a FAQ.

Here are some frequently asked questions:

- Are there any requirements to join?
Yes, but only a few, your rating must not be provisional (have a ? next to your rating), your account must be clean (didn't violate the ToS of Lichess, sandbag, etc. ), and have at least one day free every week.

- In what format will this league be?
This league will be in a 8-week long swiss (the number of rounds might vary depending on how many player signed up for the season).

- I don't seem to have a lot of time, can I still play in the league?
Don't worry! You don't need that much time! You just need one day per week, you must also need to decide a time with your opponent, so be clear on what time will you and your opponent play!

Rules

TL; DR: to participate in the league, you must have a lichess account, have a stable rating (not provisional) and mustn't have any marks in your account. The games will be played in  swiss format. The pairings will be released at Sunday at a moderator time zone, and once the pairings are out, you and your opponent will play a game with the following measures, variant: standard, time control: 15+10, colors: will be in the pairings, and rated, if a game is played with one or more wrong measures, then a new game with the correct measures must be played. After finishing a game, post your game in the corresponding forum and wait patiently for a moderator to record your scores. If your opponent doesn't answer, then you get a forfeit point, and similarly, if you don't show up in the agreed time, then your opponent gets a forfeit point, and if both players doesn't show up in the agreed time, then 0-0 forfeits will be given. Bye points will be given to a player that doesn't have a match due to odd number of players in the section. And last but not least, play fair, we are watching.

Here are the rules.
To be eligible as a player, you must
  • Have a lichess account, with an established non-provisional rapid rating. If you have multiple accounts, you must play on an account without a question mark next to your rapid rating.
  • Have joined our team and posted in the registration form that you wish to sign up.
  • You must not be marked for violating the Lichess Terms of Service
Before registering, please consider if you have the time to play a 5 week tournament (1 game per week). If you forfeit a game, you will not be eligible for prizes.
Format
  • The games are 15+10 rated, and will be in swiss format.
Playing the Games
  • Pairings will be released every Sunday night (in the moderator time zone.) You will have until next Saturday to complete the game and send in the result.
  • The pairings will be listed in a new forum post in our team for that round. It will very clearly say who is playing white and who is playing black.
  • Once you receive the pairings, you must contact your opponent through Lichess private messages and decide on a time to play your game.
  • Please turn on messages in lichess privacy settings so your opponent can reach out to you. It’s always annoying when someone turns it off, since there aren’t good ways to tell them to turn it on again!
  • If both players are unable to find a time to play, the players can submit photo evidence of the conversation to a moderator for a ½ - ½ draw score. Purposely attempting to draw your games like this is not allowed and will get you booted from the tournament.
  • Time zones can be tricky- don’t blunder! Be sure you are 100% clear which time zone you are discussing. There are many conversion tools available on the internet.
  • If your opponent doesn’t respond to you after a few days, reach out to our moderators. We will keep an eye out for the unresponsive player, and show you how to claim a forfeit win when the round ends.
  • All league players must stay in the team to participate in the league. If your opponent leaves the team, you can notify the moderators and get a forfeit win by default. The departing player will also be withdrawn from the league.
  • If you submit a game which wasn’t played correctly, you will have to play again.
  • If you suspect a player of cheating, you can report it directly to lichess. Flagged players will be removed from the league and all games played will be counted as wins for their opponent. If you notice a player of our team has been flagged, please let an admin know.
  • Once a game is finished, please post the link in the forum for that round.
Forfeits
  • If your opponent has not replied within a few days, you can claim a forfeit win. Please send a photo of the unresponsive discussion to a moderator.
  • Players who have forfeited a game will not be eligible for prizes, but can still play in the tournament
Takebacks
  • Takebacks are allowed during the games if both players agree, but you can still decline the takeback, it's your choice and your call.
Byes
  • If you are busy and cannot make the game for this round, please contact a moderator at least 1 round beforehand.
Game Analysis and Final Results
  • Every week the most interesting and instructive games will be picked to look at by the analysts.
  • Please be respectful to all players during the analysis. Feel free to discuss the games in chat.
  • In case of a tie for a prize, a blitz tiebreak (5+0) game will be played with a moderator present.
Fun Stuff and Prizes
  • In addition, this team also hosts occasional blitz tournaments! If you would like a tournament hosted, please private message the league founder, and tell them the date, time, time control, name, duration, variant, and game mode (casual or rated.) If you forget to submit one of these settings, it will be picked by the head founder. If you have other requests (personalized team description, no berserk allowed, etc.) then feel free to ask, so long as it doesn’t violate any of the guidelines above.
  • League winners will receive prizes, provided by the admins. The first-place winner in each division gets to choose their prize first, followed by the second and third places, respectively.
